Return to Sundsvall town

Activities
You are never far from the forest, the sea or the open countryside in Sundsvall. There are plenty of places for bathing - in the sea, in lakes, bays or indoor swimming pools, while forests provide the opportunity for walks and excursions.

There are mile after mile of cross-country skiing tracks, and slalom slopes for the more adventurous. The Södra Berget area, close to the city centre, is a mecca for those who enjoy the outdoor life.

There is something here for everyone all year round - walking, playing on the adventure trails with the children, exercising on the illuminated skiing track (at 26 kilometres, Sweden´s longest) or just enjoying the view.

Norra stadsberget (North hill)
About 2 km from the main square.
The editor´s favourite spot in Sundsvall. Outstanding views of the town centre from an altitude of 150 m.

From the centre you walk in the direction towards the Idrottsparken football stadium and then continue up the hill until you reach the wooden stairway. Continue your walk up to the viewpoint, nicknamed the Glasspinnen (ice cream stick).

In the area you will also find an outdoor museum, a collection of old and interesting local houses, hiking trails, playground and a museum of handicrafts and naval history. At the museum you can see the only existing specimen of the mysterious Skvadern, half hare, half wood grouse.

At Norra Berget you will also find a replica of the famous church in Liden. In June Swedish midsummer celebrations are taking place here. Phone: +46-60-154 000
