Off the beaten path Listed below are some unususal sights in the Sundsvall region. Memorial of the Russian invasion In 1721 Sweden was at war with Russia and Russian troops reached Sundsvall. The town dwellers fled inland and soldiers under the command of Major Fiandt attempted to defend the town but without success. All of Sundsvall, with the exception of the church and bell tower, was burned to the ground by the invaders. The residents of Sundsvall now faced the task of building up the town for the second time in its history. ![]() Industrial safari ![]() ![]() Kubal is one of MidSweden´s largest engineering industries, providing important employment in the region, and also Sweden´s sole producer of primary aluminium. This plant consume an astonoshing 1% of the total energy consumption of Sweden. Kubal is located at the southern entrance of the town beside the E4 road. About 4 km from the centre.
