Hockey team performing in the Swedish 2nd division.
The home arena is located approx. 5 km north of
the centre.
Timrå IK
- Ice hockey (1st division)
Timrå IK is one of the best Swedish teams.
During the 2004/2005 season world stars like Henrik
Zetterberg, Fredrik Modin, Miikka Kiprusoff and
Aki-Petteri Berg represented the club.
The stadium is almost always full (5800 people).
Fantastic atmosphere. Timrå town (pop. 17
854) is located 10 km north from Sundsvall. The
hockey season lasts from September - March.
Visit the Timrå IK website
for further info.
Sundsvall
Dragons - Basketball
Fancy Basketball? Sundsvall Dragons play their
games at the Sporthallen arena, not far from the
centre. Maximum capacity about 2500 visitors. The team plays in first division and
also managed to play 2 Swedish Championships (SM) 2007/2008.
Casino
cosmopol
There are always, more or less famous, artists
performing at the Sundsvall international casino
but the atmosphere is somewhat sterile due to
all surveillance cameras.

Hotell Södra Berget organizes shows and conserts.

Pipeline -
rock club
The small and sometimes a bit claustrophobic rock
club Pipeline organizes conserts with interesting
bands. Unforgettable bands performing here during
the years, to name a few, have been: Hunters &
Collectors, Manu Negra, The Sounds, Danko Jones
and many more.
Gatufesten
street festival (July)
In July we host one of the largest street festivals
in Sweden. The Gatufesten festival attracts
up to 100 000 people. An estimated 40% of the
visitors are assumed to be tourists.
This is THE major event in Sundsvall and THE
week to be here. Summer, fun and an never ending
flow of activities and artists on stage.
Previous
bands on stage features: Alanis Morisette, Pink,
ZZ Top, The Cardigans. The 2005 festival takes
place during the first week of July, every year.
(Monday and Tuesday are very quiet but from
Wednesday on it is 4 days of non stop party
and fun).
Check out
Gatufesten
website for further information.
Drakfestivalen - The Dragon Festival (August).
For over 17 year the annual Dragonboat race, now also known as Drakfestivalen is annualy taking place in and around Selångersån. What started as a race is now a fully evolved festival for several days. The Dragonboat race similar to the chinese one, with teams from local business and other brave locals is held with festivites around of all kinds from dance and music to theater and food. And don't miss Reagge night, the duck race or the Little Dragon Competition or maybe the diving for "treasures" in Selångersån (the Selånger river). A lot more fun to come of course. (Taken from the program schedule 2008). Official website is www.drakfestivalen.se.
Idrottsparken - Sundsvall Park Arena and Nordichallen
On rare occasions giant conserts are being held
here in Sundsvall. In 2003 we were visited by
Elton John and 16 000 came to listen. In 2004
the nostalgic band Gyllene Tider (Per Gessle,
Roxette) gave a consert attended by no less
than 24 000, making this the most visited event
in the history of Sundsvall.
The conserts are being organized at Idrottsparken
(Sundsvall Park Arena) during summer and at
Nordichallen in winter time. John Fogerty performed
at Nordichallen in March 2005.
